affordable_fall_outfitaffordable_fall_fashionFall is my favorite season for fashion! I always love when new fall trends trends pop up– I love flannel, but can we stop pretending that’s new every year? 😀 (Same goes for florals in spring…)

sleevless_blazer_vestBut Fall 2016 has brought a revival of culottes and bell sleeves, and some unexpected new items like sleeveless blazers and off the shoulder sweaters. Consider me excited.

Currently loving: culottes. I’ve bought two pairs in the past month. That doesn’t seem like much, but consider that I have bought zero pairs in the last few decades… two is huge. And they both happened to be from Old Navy.

I tried some on after feeling inspired by this video, and I fell in love!  I’ve picked up a dangerous habit of watching her styling videos, then going shopping. It’s a problem. Back to culottes– while they may seem hard to style, I have two tips to help you nail it every time.

1. Try a slim, fitted top
I follow this rule any time I wear a loose or wide bottom. It’s all about balancing proportions. 1 fitted piece + 1 loose piece = chic. 2 loose pieces = sloppy. You didn’t know you were learning math today, did you?! 🙂

2. Elongate the leg with a heel
If you feel like cropped pants make you look short and stumpy, it’s probably just the shoes you’re pairing them with. Look for a nude heel, or something without an ankle strap. Et voilà, you’re looking long and lean.

It took me a while to warm up to them, but now I think they’re such a fun alternative to skinny jeans. Are you into the culottes, or not so much? Let me know 🙂
